Gibson Les Paul Standard

Year: 1981

Origin: Nashville,TN, USA

Color: Cherry Sunburst

Neck Decription: Three-piece maple neck with lovely flame figuring. Rosewood fingerboard. Thin to medium profile and standard 1 and 11/16 nut width. The original frets are the typical 1970s “wide and low” style but have life left and are in great shape

Weight: 10lbs 7oz

Pickups: 1980s Dimarzio Super Distortions in both positions

Modifications: The bridge is changed (tailpiece is original however), as are the potentiometers and the pickups. All else is original. The cavity was stamped “1981 Nat” which likely meant it was marked to be shot in a natural finish but an order for a Cherry Sunburst came through so this one got that treatment instead.

Case: Comes with late 1980s Gibson hard case. Case is in Very Good Condition with some light marks. The locking latch requires just pulling it slightly to the side to open.

Cosmetic Condition: Very Good with some very light dings/wear around the edges. The neck’s thin lacquer finish is worn in spots which only adds to the great playability. This one never had any irreversible mods such as an added toggle switch like so many of these guitars had added. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs. Overall condition is an 8.5 out of 10

Description: 1981 was a great year for Rock n’ Roll. Tom Petty, Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC all dominated Rock radio while New Wave acts as different as The Stray Cats and New Order were bubbling up from the underground. Not to mention, the writer of this here listing was born in ’81 which is also cool..for me at least. Anyway, here’s a lively and resonant, no-no-nonsense Cherry Sunburst LP Standard from that same year with a fresh setup and over forty years of aging. The vintage Dimarzio Super Distortions add real high-output fuel to this Rock fire and sound great. Also the thinner to medium profile neck with original frets (with good life left) is a breeze to get around on. It’s ready to deliver the goods right out of the case and will make its new owner reach for it over and over as it continues to climb in value.
